Overview

The Rational Rose® 'Deployment View' is used to capture the Deployment Model. The following steps are performed to manage the Deployment View:

1. Creating a Node in the Deployment View
2. Mapping Processes to Nodes
3. Creating a Device in the Deployment View
4. Creating Connections between Devices and Nodes
5. Annotating the Deployment View

1. Creating a Node in the Deployment View

A Node in the Deployment View is created as follows:

1. Open the 'Deployment View' (there is only one) in the Browser by double-clicking on the 'Deployment View'
2. Select the 'Node' icon on the toolbar.  Click on the Deployment View diagram to create a Node.
3. Type the name of the Node.

2. Mapping Processes to Nodes

To document the processes and threads that execute on a particular Node:

1. Double-click on the Node to display its properties.
2. Click on the 'Detail' tab.
3. In the 'Processes' pane, right-click to display the pane menu, then select "Insert..."
4. Type the name of the Process or thread.
5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 until all process and threads have been documented.

3. Creating a Device in the Deployment View

A Device in the Deployment View is created as follows:

1. Open the 'Deployment View' (there is only one) in the Browser by double-clicking on the 'Deployment View'
2. Select the 'Device' icon on the toolbar.  Click on the Deployment View diagram to create a Device.
3. Type the name of the Device.

4. Creating Connections between Devices and Nodes

To create a connection between a device and a node, or between two nodes:

1. Open the 'Deployment View' (there is only one) in the Browser by double-clicking on the 'Deployment View'
2. Select the 'Connection' icon on the toolbar.
3. Select the device or node to be connected, using the left mouse-button; do not release the button.
4. Drag the mouse pointer to the device or node to be connected.  Release the left mouse button.

5. Annotating the Deployment View

To annotate the Deployment View:

1. Open the 'Deployment View' (there is only one) in the Browser by double-clicking on the 'Deployment View'
2. Select the 'Note' icon on the toolbar.
3. Click on the diagram to place the note.
4. Type the text of the note.  Resize the note if needed to display the full text of the note.
5. Select the 'Anchor'  icon from the toolbar.
6. Select the note to be anchored using the left mouse-button; do not release the button.
7. Drag the mouse pointer to the element to which the note should be attached. Release the left mouse button.
