Purpose

Promotion addresses the notion of integration of work from multiple implementers. As such, promotion is an important step and a "quality gate" that needs to be passed before work can be accepted into a higher level "staging area." This Tool Mentor describes how to promote configuration items for integration.

This Tool Mentor is applicable when running Windows NT 4.0.

To use ClearCase to promote configurations items for integration:

  1. Use ClearCase Home Base to finish the private branch in your workspace and merge the current set of changes onto the integration branch.

Tool Steps

  1. Use ClearCase Home Base to finish the private branch in your workspace and merge the current set of changes onto the integration branch:
    1. In ClearCase Home Base, click the Branches tab, and click Finish Private Branch. Follow the directions in the Finish Private Branch wizard.
    2. Select the option Merge the current set of changes onto the integration branch
    3. Change your view to the integration workspace and check in your changes.
