The Template Model

The Rose Model Template is a partially-populated Rational Rose™ model file, organized to complement the Rational Unified Process.  The model uses a set of packages within the standard Rose "views" to organize the artifacts defined by the process which can be managed using Rose.  In addition, a set of naming and modeling conventions are suggested which will make the task of organizing the model easier.

The template will typically be customized for use within specific organizations and for specific projects.  When you do so, copy the modified template file to a new location to prevent overwriting it during process product upgrades.

The ATM Example

The ATM Model Example provides an example of how the Template can be applied to organizing a model, as well as showing examples of a number of process artifacts. The model itself depicts a partial model of an automated teller machine system, with an interesting variation: the model shows how variants of a system might be modeled. The model depicts both an ATM and a Fuel Pump at which purchases can be made using an ATM card. Natural extensions can be envisioned: pre-paid phone card dispensers, ticket kiosks; in short, any sort of machine where purchases can be made using an ATM card.

Use Cases for the ATM Example

The following use cases define the behavior of the ATM.

You may link them into the ATM Example model by selecting the associated use case in Rational Rose, then selecting New and then URL from the shortcut menu. Selecting URL inserts www.rational.com. Edit the URL to point to the correct location of the Use Case Description HTML file.  You may also use the drag-and-drop technique to link the use case to the description file listed above.
